And the winner of INSIDE Festival 2015 is….
Hotel Hotel lobby by March Studio
The innovative and unique design of the lobby and bar area of Hotel Hotel are one of the newest pearls on the hospitality landscape of Canberra, Australia. March Studio, the architectural firm responsible for the interior, filled the ground floor with recycled timber, concrete beams and steel panelling.
Their creative vision materialized in 5,000 wooden slats, supported with steel rods and layered as hanging walls. This matrix of offcuts offers natural and airy ambiance to the lobby, creating a feeling of motion. The staircase is also made out of recycled timber matching the rest of the interior.
The raw look of the inside is reinstated with the numerous tables and surfaces made out of stalked concrete beams, which are also used for the seating area outside. Guests of Hotel Hotel can also enjoy a large fireplace that further complements the beautiful design of the lobby.
The subtle, warm and natural outlook of the venue is one of the main characteristics, which attracted the judging panel, who was pleased with this masterful integration of raw, recycled materials, transforming them into a sculpture-like living space. The lobby of Hotel Hotel is a staple of creative thought and original application of the established principles of architecture and functional design.
